October 2019
Dear Holman Families:
It was great seeing more than 300 families during our Back to School Nights. It’s nice to be a part of a great community that is invested in the education of their children.
The leaves are turning colors, the temperatures are finally beginning to fall, and the night sky is getting darker more quickly each day. Fall is here! We have many things planned at the Holman Elementary School this October.
Schools Closed
Schools will be closed for staff and students on Monday, September 30th and Tuesday, October 1. Schools will also be closed for staff and students on Wednesday, October 9th.
As a reminder, please note that students will be off from school on Monday, October 14th as the Holman School will be closed for staff in-service.
Picture Day
Say CHEESE! Students in grades K-5 will have their school pictures taken on Wednesday, October 16, 2019
Conferences
As stated at Back to School night, this year, parents will be scheduling parent-teacher conferences online using the Parent Portal. Parents will be able to schedule conferences online starting mid-October. Directions will also be posted on the Holman School website explaining the process. Availability is based on a first come, first served basis. Conferences will be held during November 19-21. Night conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 20th. Please remember that first marking period report cards will be available online in January 2020.

School Safety Week
During the week of October 21-25, Holman School will be celebrating School Safety Week. On Monday, Students receive Bucket Filler stickers. Read the Safety Pledge during the morning announcements and students sign pledge in their classroom. Tuesday, Review internet safety/cyber bullying during the morning announcements. Wednesday,Wear orange - Unity Day, unite for a safe school. Thursday, School-wide Omegaman Assembly. Dress like a Superhero Day (Helping Everyone Respect Others) Thank you H.O.P.E for sponsoring this event. Friday, Classrooms will review bus safety rules during the morning announcements.
Red Ribbon Week
October 28th - November 1st: This week and every day hereafter, Holman students will pledge to lead a drug and alcohol free life. Each day this week, we will show each other and our friends and family in and out of school that we will not become involved with drugs by showing all different ways we can do that. Every day this week will have a different theme, bringing focus to us all leading healthier, drug free lives:
- Monday, October 28th - Sock it to Drugs - Wear Crazy Socks
- Tuesday, October 29th - Use your head, Don’t do drugs - Crazy Hair Day
- Wednesday, October 30th - Put a cap on Drugs - Hat Day
- Thursday, October 31st - Halloween -Scare drugs away - Wear your costume
- Friday, November 1st - Team up against drugs - Team Jersey Day

BOOK FAIR
H.O.P.E. (Holman Organization of Parents & Educators) will be hosting Holman School's Book Fair on October 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th. Holman students will have a chance to visit the Book Fair with their teacher at least once during the week. The Book Fair offers readers a wonderful selection of fun and engaging books. Reading is one of the most important skills that you can teach a child. I encourage you to read with your child any possible chance that you can get. Time spent reading with young learners has amazing effects on students’ educational success and creates a special bond. Our Family Fun Book Fair night is on Thursday, October 10th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. The theme for the fair is Enchanted Forest. Let your Imagination Grow! Please mark your calendars for our next HOPE meeting which will be held at 7:00PM in the IMC on Thursday, November 14th. Please be sure to support H.O.P.E. Visit their link on our school web page. You can support H.O.P.E. in many ways.
H.O.P.E.'s Fall Festival is right around the corner.
The celebration begins at Cicconi Farms on Wednesday, October 16th at 4:00pm. Our H.O.P.E. sponsored event will provide Fall fun for the whole family!
HOPE Meeting
Please join us on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Holman IMC for our H.O.P.E meeting. I look forward to seeing you there.
H.O.P.E.'s Trunk or Treat and Movie Night
Join us on Tuesday, October 29th for Holman’s second annual Trunk or Treat. HOPE will also be sponsoring a fun-filled movie night immediately following the Trunk or Treat. More details will be forthcoming about this fun-filled evening.

Board of Education Meeting
On Wednesday, October 16th, the Board of Education Meeting will be held at 6:30 pm at the Administration Building.
American Education Week
This special event will be held on Tuesday, November 19th and Wednesday, November 20th. There will be two sessions held to accommodate various grade levels.
- Tuesday, November 19th - Grades K, 1, and 2 – 10:00am
- Wednesday, November 20th - Grade 3, 4, and 5 - 10:30am
Food Services
Breakfast is served in the all-purpose room prior to the start of the school day. Only Students who are purchasing breakfast may sit in the APR during this time. Outside food is prohibited during breakfast service. Information regarding school lunch and food services can be found on the JSD webpage. Information regarding school lunch and food services can be found on the JSD webpage. Students in Grades K-5 are reminded to practice their Student ID# for lunch/snack purchases. More information will be in the Holman Student Handbook and on the district and school web page. Students may not bring breakfast food from home and sit in the cafeteria to eat it. Thank you.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application
You may apply for free/reduced price lunch benefits. Applications are sent home with students in September, and are always available on our web site or at your child’s school. Only one application is required per household, but must be completed annually. If a new application for prior recipients is not received, the full price for lunch will be charged. Free/reduced meal status from last year will be honored through October 19, 2018. PLEASE NOTE, THAT IF AN APPLICATION IS NOT RECEIVED BY OCTOBER 18, 2019, YOUR CHILD WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO TO FULL PAY ON OCTOBER 21, 2019 AND UNTIL AN APPLICATION IS RECEIVED AND APPROVED.
