November 2020 Principal's Message
Dear Holman Families:
I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break. As we get back into our routine, please note that this Friday, November 13th, Group 1 students are scheduled to attend school at Holman Elementary. Group 2 students will be remote on that day.
As the parent-teacher conference days approach, I hope that you will have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher virtually regarding their academic and behavioral progress so far this school year. Conferences are an important component to ensure that the school and the home work together to maximize your child’s full potential. We are making a change to our parent-teacher conferences for this year. They will now take place on December 1 - 3. They will be held virtually and can also be held by telephone if necessary.
Conferences
Conference Schedule Dates - December 1 - 3 - Conferences will be on the following days: Please schedule your conference(s) by Wednesday, Nov. 18th!
- Monday, December 1st - Afternoon conferences
- Tuesday, December 2nd - Afternoon and Evening conferences
- Wednesday, December 3rd - Afternoon conferences
How To Schedule Your Parent -Teacher Conference In Portal: Beginning Nov. 9th you can
- Log into your Portal account
- Select the CONFERENCES tab at the top
- Select the “Request a Conference” link
Change the date on the window to the week of Nov. 30th to see the time slots available on Dec 1,2, 3 for your child’s teacher. Once completed, you will see your reserved conference on the main page of the conference tab. You can use this link to cancel or change the conference if you need to.
Daily Health Screening
We have been successful in receiving a Daily COVID Screening from a majority of our parents. Please continue to complete your child’s Daily Health Screening. For those that require a reminder, place a post it note by the coffee pot, refrigerator or set the alarm on your cell phone. We cannot stress enough the importance of parents filling out this form on the Parent Portal each morning that their child attends school in person. It must be filled out 30 minutes prior to your child’s arrival at school. Completing the Daily Health Screening will eliminate your child visiting the nurse’s office in the morning.
Please read the questions carefully!
- The first question is asking if your child has been FEVER-FREE for 24 hours without the help of fever-reducing medication. So the answer to this question if your child is healthy is YES.
- If you answer incorrectly, when your child gets sent to the nurse and we call you, we can reset the form for you to answer it correctly.
Travel Advisory during COVID
It is very important to remember that if you travel during the break to a state that is on the Travel advisory list it is imperative that you and your family quarantine for 14 days when you return. Click on the link below to see the travel advisory list.

Holman Elementary School will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 26th & 27th for Thanksgiving Break.
November is a time intended for giving thanks. Please ask your child what they are doing to support this important character trait. How are they showing thankfulness and appreciation? I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for taking the time to read with your children, checking homework, communicating with your child’s teacher and countless other things you do as a parent or guardian to encourage and support the education of your child, especially during these challenging times. We are very fortunate to have a school community with a nurturing staff, happy students, and caring parents. Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your Thanksgiving Recess with family!
Sincerely,
Richard Karas Principal
