March Principal's Message

Dear Holman Families:

I’m so glad that spring is finally around the corner.   Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead on Sunday, March 11th.  With the extra hour of daylight, it's a little easier to do some fun activities with the family.  One of the most important things that you can do to support your child's success is to read with your child every day.  Research states that daily reading practice (10-30 minutes depending upon grade level) will continue to strengthen skills in all academic domains.  Have your child read to you; read with your child; and/or read to your child.  Ask them questions about the reading.  You may even want to consider keeping a daily writing journal to share and record ideas generated from their reading.  Daily reading and writing both in school and at home will continue to strengthen the foundation for success in all academic domains.  Continue to learn.  Knowledge is power!

Entrance Procedures During The Arrival of Students:  We ask that you wait until 9:00am to approach the building to be signed in for your visit.  (An exception would be made for a scheduled appointment approved by your child’s principal/teacher/counselor or escorting your child to the front doors after 8:45am to sign them in).

Entrance Procedures During The Dismissal of Students:  During dismissal, unless a note has been given or there is an emergency, parents may not sign out their child prior to 2:35.  If a parent/guardian comes in after 2:35, he/she may sign in and wait directly outside of the building.  We will call the student from their class at 2:50, so as not to miss any instructional time.  Please make sure that you park in the South Lot (on the right side of the school – use Beam Avenue entrance) and walk to the main entrance.

Please adhere to these other security procedures as you visit Holman Elementary:

  • At the buzzer, it is expected that all visitors will state their name, the purpose of their visit and/or specify with whom they have an appointment and present identification.
  • If the appointment is verified, the visitor will be buzzed in and must present themselves to the receptionist immediately upon entry.
  • Visitors will be required to show valid photo identification and sign in to obtain a visitor’s pass.  The visitors’ ID will be held until visitor will receive a guest badge.  This procedure helps us to know that the visitor as departed by ensuring they leave the same way they arrived.
  • In an effort to keep our building secure, students/parents cannot come back into the building to retrieve forgotten assignments/books, etc.  The doors remain locked after student dismissal.
  • Please do not hold door open for other visitors.  All visitors must follow the above procedures

Continue to visit the district website to view the PARCC testing calendar (go to the For Parents and Students tab and then Assessments and Grading).  You can also view the approved 2018-2019 District School Calendar.
