March Principal's Message 2023

Dear Holman Families:

I’m so glad that spring is finally around the corner.   Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead on Sunday, March 12th.  With the extra hour of daylight, it's a little easier to do some fun activities with the family.  One of the most important things that you can do to support your child's success is to read with your child every day.  Research states that daily reading practice (10-30 minutes depending upon grade level) will continue to strengthen skills in all academic domains.

Everyone’s Favorite Event Hits Holman Again!!!

For the fourth time in Holman history, our school will be participating in a very exciting program called One School, One Book. The entire school (students, teachers, secretaries, the school nurse, paras, and Mr. Karas) will all be reading the same book at the same time!

Guess who else gets to join in the fun?   HOLMAN FAMILIES!!

All Holman students will receive a copy of the book, Zoey And Sassafras Dragons And Marshmallows by Asia Citro on Tuesday, March 14th  along with a schedule for nightly reading. There will be daily trivia questions and prizes.

Here's what we are asking you to do as a family:

  • read and talk about the book together for a few minutes each night (Monday-Thursday)
  • enjoy the time together as a family away from electronic devices
  • if you want, snap a picture of your time reading together and send it to lgraney@jacksonsd.org to be displayed in our main lobby picture gallery
  • you may listen to chapters read by Holman staff members that will posted on the school website
  • look for special days to celebrate Zoey and Sassafras’ adventure

Spring Picture Day

Student pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 29th during the school day.  More information regarding photo packages and ordering will be forthcoming.

5th Grade Community Service Project

The 5th grade students will be completing two service projects in March.  The first, is a cross curricular project that will involve learning about and recreating, in a STEM based activity, the animals at the Popcorn Park Zoo in Forked River.  The students will also raise money to be donated to the Zoo.  The second project will tie into our One Book, One School event, helping animals in need.  The students will be collecting items to donate to the Forked River Humane Society.

Ways that you can help:

  • March 20 - March 31, your child can bring in coins each day to vote on their favorite Popcorn Park Zoo Animal.  The winning animal will be announced on April 3, 2023.
  • March 20 - March 31, your child can bring in dog or cat food, blankets, and toys to donate to the Forked River Humane Society.

The fifth grade thanks you for all of your support and donations.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration in the Jackson School District will take place during the month of MARCH by appointment.  Registration packets will be available online and in all elementary schools.  We encourage all parents (this INCLUDES students already enrolled in the pre-K program) to pre-register online to save time and streamline the registration process at the time of your appointment.   It is incredibly important that parents register during this period so we can plan ahead for the next school year. If you are a parent of an incoming kindergarten student (regardless if they are already in the pre-K program), we kindly ask that you make every effort to register your child during the month of March.  All information will be available on the Registration Page on the district website.

Please call (732) 833-4620 and speak to Mrs. Lynn Goldblatt to schedule an appointment during March to register your child for Kindergarten.
