Happy summer everyone! Your hard work paid off and now it is time to relax and enjoy your break! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you make time to read over the summer and practice your multiplication facts! When you meet your 5th grade teachers, I want them to see the smart students that I know you are. A little bit of reading and math practice goes a long way!!
(Please see below for two important summer reading links!)
Please check out the following link for important information about summer reading! Summer Reading
Members of the JLHS National Honor Society have been working on a service project that our students will certainly benefit from. NHS members have recorded themselves reading selected picture books to share with elementary school readers. They called this project Quarantales. This is such a great project....made for students, by students. Another fabulous way to keep kids reading over the summer months! Please see attached for complete program overview with links to the video.
If you need to get in contact with me, I can be reached at email@example.com
Here's what we are working on......
Math: Students are working on Topic 1: Generalize place value understanding through one million. This includes place value relationships, standard form, expanded form and number names.
Reader's Workshop: Students are working on Unit 1: Interpreting Characters- The Heart of the Story. Students will study the complexity of characters and explore themes while developing skills such as inference and interpretation.
Writing: Students are working on Unit 1: The Arc of the Story- Writing Realistic Fiction. Students will develop believable characters with struggles and motivations.
Spelling: Students are working in their designated spelling group. They will follow our class schedule and be tested on the 7th day of their cycle.
*It is VERY important to notify the main office and myself of a dismissal change for your child. Please call the main office or send a note/email with your child's full name, the date, and teacher's name on your letter.*
Our class is scheduled for last lunch, which is 1:00. I believe that the class would benefit from a mid-morning snack to help the students maintain their focus during lessons. Since we will be working through snack, I ask that you limit the snack to one healthy food item per day. (some examples: one piece of fruit, carrot sticks, pretzels, crackers) NO PEANUTS OR PEANUT PRODUCTS OF ANY TYPE DUE TO PEANUT ALLERGIES IN THE ROOM. Thank you for your cooperation!
The 2020-2021 Box Top collection is under way! Please help support our PTN by sending in as many box tops as you can. Collection sheets can be printed from the PTN website, or you can send them in loose.
