WELCOME TO READ180
STUDENTS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BRING ANY SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO MY CLASS FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. I WILL SUPPLY THEM WITH ANYTHING THEY MAY NEED.
READ180 IS A COMPUTER BASED READING PROGRAM. IT INCLUDES WHOLE/SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION, STUDENT APPLICATION, AND INDEPENDENT READING ON A DAILY BASIS.
THE WORK ON THE STUDENT APPLICATION INCLUDES A PERSONALIZED PATH WHICH ACCELERATES LEARNING. READ180 FOLLOWS THE CORE CURRICULUM STANDARDS FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL.
INDEPENDENT READING
IT IS YOUR CHILD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE 2 BOOKS WITH THEM EVERYDAY; AT LEAST ONE BOOK BEING A CHAPTER BOOK. THEY WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE BOOKS FROM OUR CLASS LIBRARY ONCE A WEEK, ALONG WITH BOOKS FROM OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY. STUDENTS MAY ALSO BRING BOOKS FROM HOME. HOWEVER, PLEASE MAKE SURE THE BOOKS ARE ON THEIR READING LEVEL. YOU WILL FIND YOUR CHILD'S LEXILE IN THEIR PLANNERS. YOU MAY ALSO VISIT LEXILE.COM TO CHECK OUT THE LEXILE OF A BOOK IF IT IS NOT LEVELED.
HOMEWORK
READ180 STUDENTS WILL NEED TO READ FOR 15 MINUTES DAILY. THEY MAY READ INDEPENDENTLY OR WITH A PARENT. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO FILL OUT THEIR WEEKLY LOG AND GET A PARENT'S SIGNATURE. LOGS ARE DUE EVERY 2 WEEKS.
MOST OFTEN, NO WRITTEN HOMEWORK WILL BE GIVEN AS ALL SPELLING WORK IS COMPLETED ON THE COMPUTER DURING THEIR LITERACY PERIOD.
