    Sixth Grade Students Will:

    • read works that focus on text complexity and its academic language
    • extract and employ evidence from text, literary and informational text
    • build knowledge through content rich non-fiction
    • focus on the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing
    • write essays by responding to text, including comparison and synthesis of ideas
    • be introduced to and use Notice and Note Fiction and Non-Fiction as a close reading strategy 
    • Use PVLEGS techniques for speaking in front of a class

This is my 19th year teaching at the Goetz Middle School.  During that time, I have had the pleasure of working in the Literacy department.  I hope I can make this a fun year of learning for my students.

    2. Don't forget, if you ordered a Yearbook, pick-up is this week in the morning up until 12:30.  

    3. If you still have a book of mine, put it in a bag with my name on it and who it is from and give it to the school when you get your Yearbook. If not, hold onto it for me until next year. Thank you.

     4. Read a good book! Check out the 7th grade Summer Reading List on the Jackson District website for some good ideas! I'm going to miss all of you!!!

    1. Complete the Daily Check-In Question Each Day.

    2. Choose 4 out of the 6 BrainPOPs listed on the document in Google Classroom.  Complete the BrainPOP Quiz and one part of document in Google Classroom each day.  Work at your own pace this week.

    3. Be sure to complete any missing assignments in Genesis as soon as possible.

    2. Open the Day 36 Biography Research Notebook and continue working on Slides 1-5.  The slides are due by Friday morning.

    1. READ the Research Speech Assignment Part 2 document.

    2. Complete the Biography Research Notebook Slides #s 1-5 by Friday Morning.

    3. Record a video for FlipGrid.  Follow the directions on FlipGrid.

    1. Watch BrainPOP video and take the quiz.

    2. Complete the worksheet on Paraphrasing.

    2. Complete worksheet on Plagiarism. 

    3. Be sure to complete and Turn In the Research Speech Notebook Slide with the individual's name for approval if you haven't already done so.

    4. Optional Assisgnment: No Red Ink Pronoun Practice for Extra Credit.

    1. Watch the pronoun review video.

    2. Correct your Pronoun Review from yesterday using the attached answer key in Google Classroom.

    3. Complete the Google Form Pronoun Test.

    2. Study the Pronouns Chart from Day 30 for your TEST TOMORROW

    3. If you did not already select a person for your speech, please work on it and submit for approval.

    1. Read the information about the Research Speech.

    2. Use the link on the research page to find information about a person you would like to research.

    1. Log on to NoREDINK.com and Complete Pronoun Practice #1.  Be sure to READ each lesson BEFORE you begin the questions.

    2. Complete the Lesson 6 Wordly Wise Test (Google Form).  Proofread BEFORE you Submit the test.

    2. Complete the Wordly Wise Lesson 6 Review Worksheet (No words will be repeated).

    1. Study Wordly Wise Lesson 6 vocabulary list.  Wordly Wise Lesson 6 TEST will be on FRIDAY, May 1st.

    2. Complete 6C. Wordly Wise worksheet. Questions may have more than one answer.

    3. Complete Subject and Object Pronouns Worksheet B. Be sure to look at the notes at the top of the page.

     

     

     Day 24 Monday, April 27th

     

    1. Watch the BrainPOP video on Pronouns. The video is titled "I vs. Me."  Take the quiz at the end.

    2. Complete the worksheet titled "Worksheet A Subject and Object Pronouns"

    1. Read the comment announcement for today to read and study a grammar book page on pronouns.

    2. Watch the Brainpop video on Personal Pronouns.  Take the quiz at the end.

    3. Complete the Google Form titled "Pronouns and Antecedents" worksheet.

     

     

    Day 22 Thursday, April 23rd

    1. Watch YouTube tutorial on pronouns

    2. Complete Pronoun Worksheet in Google Classroom

    3. Extra Credit is also offered today.  You will have two weeks to complete a time capsule for extra credit.

     

     

    Day 21 Wednesday, April 22nd

    1.  Using the Lesson 6 vocabulary list, complete the attached 6A and 6B worksheets.

     

     

    Day 20 Tuesday, April 21st

    1. Finish defining Lesson 6 vocabulary #'s 11-15. Write a sentence for each.

    2. Finish the Compare and Contrast essay about Spring Break. 

    **Be sure to turn Both of these assignments in at the end of the day today.  Also, today is the last day to turn in ANY missing assignments for 3rd marking period.

     

    Day 19 Monday, April 20th

     1. Define Lesson 6 vocabulary #'s 6-10.  Write a sentence for each. 

     2. Begin working on a Compare and Contrast essay about Spring Break. Unsubmit the vocabulary list to continue working on it.  The Compare and Contrast document is in the Google Classroom..

     

     

     

     

     Day 18 Wednesday, April 8th

    1. Define new vocabulary and write a sentence for each. The vocabulary list 6 and worksheet are in Google Classroom.

    Any missing work from remote learning needs to be turned in to your teacher by Tuesday, April 21st  (right after Spring Break). Any work that is turned in will be giving 'passing' credit. Any work not turned in or still missing will have a negative impact on your 3rd marking period grade.  If any student is dealing with a difficult time that has impacted their work being done, you need to reach out directly to your teacher.

    1. Read for 20 minutes and write a summary of your reading on the worksheet in Google Classroom.

    2. Finish Narrative yesterday if not done.

    3. Finish Google Slide if not done.

    4. Complete Student Check-In Survey in Google Classroom.

     

     

    Day 14 Thursday, April 2nd

    1. Review the comments on your Narrative Screening Sample

    2. Review the material on the Tips For Writing WS

    3. Begin to rewrite your narrative. Write a story continuation that uses the components of a good story, as well as, dialogue.

     

     Day 13 Wednesday, April 1st

    1. Read carefully and study the two attachments with Dialogue information in Google Classroom.

    2. Then complete the third attachment which is a Worksheet on Dialogue. Read the directions carefully before completing it.

    1. Watch Brainpop on point of view and take quiz (directions and password in Google Classroom)

    2. Complete worksheet on point of view in Google Classroom
