Success Seminar is very beneficial and allows students to learn skills essential for high school and college. The program was created to help eighth-grade students transition to high school smoothly because the first year determines how the rest of high school will go.
Success Seminar is a support class for all ninth graders to help them transition from middle and junior high school to high school. This class will teach incoming Jackson Memorial High School students to organize their materials and manage their homework. Success Seminar will also provide a setting for students to track their grades, practice self-reflection, communicate, and get to know the rest of the first-year class.
Evaluation Methods:
- 50% from Assessments (Tests/Quizzes/Projects)
- 40% from Participation (Classwork/Discussion)
- 10% from Homework (Practical Application)
Required Materials:
- Notebook
- Pen/pencil/highlighter
- Chromebook (charged)
- Journal Notebook
- Folder (storage for all worksheets/handouts)
Expectations and Classroom Procedures:
- Students will come to class on time, prepared, and ready to contribute to class discussions.
- Students will store their cell phones in an assigned classroom area for class time.
- Due dates for assignments are not suggestions and will be strictly enforced.
- Students are responsible for make-up work in the event of an absence. All classwork/homework assignments will be posted daily on Google Classroom.
- This class is designed to help students become successful individuals. Our efforts will be most valuable when everyone contributes to conversations and activities. Bring an open mind and positive attitude to class each day.
