November 2020
Dear Switlik Families,
It’s hard to believe that Fall is here and we are nearing the start of the holiday season. Teachers continue to work hard, designing challenging and engaging lessons for their students. Please continue to reinforce what is taught at school by asking your child questions and encouraging him and her to read each day.
Teachers and students have participated in a variety of drills these past two months. Building Safety and Security is always something we take very seriously at the Switlik School. Teachers discussed and practiced security procedures of these drills during the first few weeks of school. Students are aware of the importance of the various security drills; paying attention to the teacher and being extremely quiet during security drills and procedures. These drills foster student safety and are practiced on a regular basis.
CONFERENCES ARE NOW DEC. 1-3
Parent-Teacher Conferences Will Now Be Held Dec. 1 - 3. Beginning on Monday, Nov. 9, you will be able to use the Parent Portal to schedule a conference with your child's teacher at a time that works for you. Conferences will be held virtually and also can be arranged by telephone. Please use the Parent Portal to schedule your conferences by Wednesday, Nov. 18. All students, hybrid and remote, will be on a shortened day schedule December 1-3. In order for teachers to hold afternoon conferences, the afternoon Google Meet check-ins with students will not occur for the three days of conferences.
See more information and instructions on how to schedule a conference on the Portal.
Daily Health Screening: We have been successful in receiving a Daily COVID Screening from a majority of our parents. Please continue to complete your child’s Daily Health Screening. For those that require a reminder, place a post it note by the coffee pot, refrigerator or set the alarm on your cell phone. We cannot stress enough the importance of parents filling out this form on the Parent Portal each morning that their child attends school in person. It must be filled out 30 minutes prior to your child’s arrival at school. Completing the Daily Health Screening will eliminate your child visiting the nurse’s office in the morning.
- Please read the questions carefully!
- The first question is asking if your child has been FEVER-FREE for 24 hours without the help of fever-reducing medication. So the answer to this question if your child is healthy is YES.
- If you answer incorrectly, when your child gets sent to the nurse and we call you, we can reset the form for you to answer it correctly.
School will be closed Monday, November 2- Friday, November 6. Students will return to school on Monday, November 9. The week of November 23rd is a short week so that we may take time to celebrate with our families the traditions of Thanksgiving. There will be a shortened day schedule on Wednesday, November 25th with school closing at 1:35 p.m. School will be closed on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th in celebration of Thanksgiving.
As we enter this time of year, we all pause to reflect on what we are thankful for, being a part of an extraordinary community. We are very fortunate to have a school community with a nurturing staff, happy students and caring parents. Enjoy everything that the Fall season has to offer!
Sincerely,
Kathleen McKiernan
