November Principal's Message

November, 2023

Dear Swilik Families,

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone that has joined us the last couple of weeks during our Parent-Teacher Conferences as well as American Education Week. We had excellent attendance at Switlik. Studies have shown that students perform better when they know their families are connected to their school and learning. So again, thank you for joining us.

We have collected an enormous amount of lost and found items since the beginning of the school year. We had most of it on display throughout Parent-Teacher Conferences and American Education Week. At this point, if items are not collected by Wednesday, November 22nd, we will be donating them to a charity. Stop by and take a look for any missing items!

Thank you to the PTN for all of the wonderful events so far this year; attendance at the events has been fantastic. It is always great to see everyone enjoying themselves. As we transition to colder weather and more indoor activities, it becomes increasingly more difficult to accommodate everyone. One big issue the PTN continually has to deal with is respecting deadlines for event registration. For all of our events and fundraisers, the PTN gives a minimum of 3 weeks, but typically 4-6 weeks, for everyone to register. Event & fundraiser details are sent out via printed monthly newsletters, Remind messages, Facebook posts, and weekly emails.  In order to continue to do what they do, going forward, deadlines will be strictly enforced and no exceptions will be made. Unfortunately, if you miss a deadline, the PTN will be unable to accommodate a request for an extension, no matter the reason.  This decision is necessary in order for the PTN to continue to offer all that they do and is being strictly enforced by school administration.  I appreciate your understanding in this matter as these are hardworking volunteers that deserve everyone’s cooperation.

Finally, we are getting closer to moving our main entrance permanently down to the gym door where we currently have drop off and pick up. We are waiting on a few more parts to come to retrofit the doors and hope to be up and running in a few weeks. Just a reminder during drop off to pull all the way up to allow more cars to unload. Also, if you need to exit the car to help your child, please find a designated parking spot so you do not hold up the line. We are definitely seeing more of this and would appreciate everyone correctly following the procedures.

I hope everyone enjoys the long Thanksgiving weekend and has the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. We will be on a shortened day schedule on Wednesday, November 22nd (1:40 p.m. dismissal) and closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Raymond
