Dear Switlik Families,

We are off to a great start to the 2016-2017 school year!  Children and teachers are into their routines, learning new schedules, getting organized, and having fun learning. We are looking forward to another exciting school year. I would like to thank our teachers, parents and community members for their continuous support.

As mentioned at our Back to School Nights, our district and school website platform has changed. This new site makes it easier for us to distribute information to you in a more efficient manner. Please continue to visit our district and school website for current activities and events taking place, as well as your child’s teacher’s class page; it is a great tool for our families to stay connected to our school community. With this new platform, my weekly principal’s message will become a monthly message or as needed.

This year the Jackson School District will introduce its new Standards Based Report cards at the elementary level. I will be hosting “Coffee with the Principal” on Tuesday, October 11th, at 9:30 a.m. in the IMC and Wednesday, October 19th, at 7:00 p.m. in the IMC. At that time, I will review the new Standards Based Report Card and answer any specific questions or concerns.

Don't miss out on a Slamtastic evening on November 1st as the "Switlik All Stars" compete against the "Harlem Wizards" at Jackson Memorial High School at 7:00 p.m.  You can buy your tickets online at www.harlemwizards.com or purchase through the PTN.

School will be closed for students on the following dates in October:

10/3, 10/4, 10/10 and 10/12.

I look forward to seeing you at our next PTN Meeting on Thursday, October 20th at 9:30 a.m. in our IMC.

Thank you for all that you do to support your children and their education. Switlik Elementary School is an excellent school because of terrific teachers and amazing families.

Sincerely,

Kathleen McKiernan
