August 10, 2016

Dear Switlik Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying a fun filled summer with family and friends.  Our secretaries and custodians are still working hard to get ready for the 2016-2017 school year.  Classrooms were painted, the stage was refurbished, trailers re-sided, a new path to the playground was installed, the new math series will be arriving, teacher’s supplies are being delivered daily.  For the first time, Switlik will host the District In-Service on Thursday, September 1st!

Please do not forget about the value of continued learning; do not let anyone take a vacation from reading!  Involvement in reading during the summer months leads to better academic performance when children return to school in the fall. Please continue to encourage your child to read; once again Switlik will take part in the Switlik Summer Reading Challenge!

Get a jump on next year’s Dunk Tank tickets at our Second Annual Reading Fun Festival! Children in kindergarten through second grade  can keep reading skills strong during the summer months by spending  15-30 minutes enjoying reading, practicing sight words and writing letters, words and sentences to keep skills fresh. Children in grades three through five are encouraged to read five days each week this summer for 30 minutes a day.  That ten steps per week, or 150 minutes per week will add up to 1,500 minutes, 25 hours of reading, or 100 steps! What a super way to keep your reading skills and stamina up throughout the summer! Reading logs were sent home, and additional logs can be downloaded from the Switlik website.
