    COACH

    TRACK & FIELD, BASKETBALL, GYMNASTICS

     

     

    Charley Best came to Jackson Memorial High School in 1968.  He is one of the catalysts for establishing girls’ sports at JMHS.  

    During the 1970’s Mr. Best coached girls’ basketball and gymnastics, winning championships in 1974, 1975, and 1977 in basketball, and in 1977 for gymnastics. 

    From 1973 until his retirement in 2002 he coached both girls and boys track and field teams, being part of 4 Division, 4 County, and 3 Shore Conference Championships.

    As a top throwing coach in NJ, he ran the Elite Women's Throwing Clinics for the 1980 Olympics.  Throughout his career, his track and field athletes would compile countless County, Shore, State and two National Champions.

    He initiated the Adventure Bound program, and was honored by the NJ Department of Education in 1999 as “Most Innovative Teacher”.

    Charley Best has inspired students, athletes, & colleagues with his passion and dedication to everything he was involved in.  His efforts have contributed to the success of countless individuals.
