HECTOR RIVERA
CLASS OF 1974
INDUCTION CLASS OF 2003
ATHLETE
SOCCER, TRACK, WRESTLING
Hector Rivera earned eleven varsity letters as a Jaguar, three in wrestling and four each in soccer and track. Playing left wing, he received All County honors in soccer his junior and senior year.
As a track athlete Hector specialized in the 440-yard, the 880-yard, and the mile. His senior year he was the Ocean County Champion in the 880.
As a wrestler, Hector won two District titles, the 1973 Wall Holiday Tournament, and the 1974 Region VII Championship in the 122 pound weight class. His senior year he completed a 27-0 season by becoming the Jaguars first State Champion. Minutes later, his brother Edwin won the 135 pound title. This double victory by the brothers ranks as Hector’s most memorable moment in his scholastic career.
Upon graduation Hector attended Temple University for two years on a wrestling scholarship, after which he served ten years in the US Navy. He is also a member of the Shore Conference Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame.
