LOU DURANT
CLASS OF 1978
INDUCTION CLASS OF 2006
ATHLETE
SOCCER, WRESTLING
In 1974 Lou Durant began a most accomplished athletic career. Although he participated in soccer it was on the wrestling mat that he would distinguish himself as an athlete.
His career included thirteen individual championships and three First Team All Shore honors. As a freshman Lou won his first thirty-two matches. He finished that season with a 32-2 record and placed fourth in the state.
He captured championships in District 25, Region 7, as well as the Wall Holiday Tournament, in which he was named MVP. He would go on to win these three titles as a sophomore on his way to a third place finish in the state tournament.
As a junior Lou repeated the same championships from his sophomore year. In his senior season he won the final of four championships in each, the Districts, the Regionals and Wall Holiday Tournaments. He culminated a 27-0 season by winning the 122-pound NJSIAA State Championship.
His final career record was 118-5. The 118 wins remained an Ocean County record until 1996.
