This 6th grade class is broken into 3 units. The Emotional Intelligence unit will focus on how emotions affect their daily life. They will understand the vast array of human emotions at any given moment and develop an understanding of the information our emotional responses feed us in decision-making, relationships, and in overcoming obstacles. Students will increase their emotional vocabulary and grow in their ability to communicate their needs and express themselves. Growth Mindset unit: Students will be able to recognize how their brain functions and identify the challenges they face in middle school. They will be able to understand how our brains are able to grow stronger and to focus on fostering growth versus a fixed mindset. Students will recognize how personalities can change and explore how knowing this can change how they think about others. Interpersonal Skills unit will teach students the varying communication skills necessary for healthy relationships and in establishing healthy boundaries. They will learn how to navigate difficult conversations and how to effectively express their emotions and needs.
