Hello! My name is Chris Ippolito and I am pleased to be starting my 20th year teaching history at Christa McAuliffe Middle School. This year I will be teaching three sections of 8th grade social studies and one section of the History of Jackson and I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year!
The history component of social studies will focus on the founding period through the American Civil War with a concentration on the Constitution, the individuals who drafted, amended and ratified it and its implementation. By the end of the course, it is my expectation that students will have a thorough knowledge of the Constitution as well as the understanding that it is a living document that can be altered by court decisions as well as amendments, and therefore they have a stake in its future.
Current events is a primary focus of our class as social studies is the key to consuming, processing and analyzing news events spanning from hyper-local issues to worldwide events. Current events may take over the class depending on their impact and importance as we give students an opportunity to learn about situations as they occur and assess the possible influence these events have on policy. It is our great advantage as teachers of history to have 21st century technology to allow us to process these issues in real time and I look forward to following the twists and turns of daily events and hopfully make these issues relevant to my students.
For my classes, students simply need to bring something to write with and something to write on as well as a folder to keep handouts. Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, which is the best way to reach me. Otherwise, the school phone number is 732-833-4701.
Good luck to all for the 2018-19 school year and I look forward to working with the many students and parents of the district.
