Miss Toro’s Classroom Expectations
Welcome to sixth grade math! To create a respectful, focused, and engaging learning environment, it’s essential that we all follow these classroom expectations:
-
Respect Everyone and Everything:
- Respect yourself, your classmates, and me. Treat others’ belongings with care, as you would your own.
- Use kind and appropriate language. Making fun of someone, even if they’re your friend, is not acceptable. Continuous use of inappropriate language will result in appropriate action being taken.
-
Entering the Classroom:
- Enter the room quietly, sit down, and immediately start the activity on the board.
-
Stay Focused and Participate:
- Pay attention during lessons and participate actively. Active listening and participation are key to your learning.
- Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
-
Bathroom Use:
- Bathroom breaks should be quick and should not interfere with your learning, especially during the "Do Now" activity. Use the bathroom during individual assignments if needed.
- If bathroom breaks are overused, you’ll need to go before or after class.
-
Come to Class Prepared:
- Bring your pencil case (pencil, highlighter, sharpener, eraser, dry erase marker), binder, folder, math book, and any other necessary materials to every class.
- Arrive on time. I understand that adjusting to the bell schedule can be challenging for sixth graders, but please try to pick it up as soon as possible.
-
Stay in Your Seat:
- Please remain seated during class unless you’ve raised your hand and it’s an appropriate time to get up. I’ll let you know when it’s okay to move around.
-
No Cheating:
- Cheating is not tolerated. If you are suspected or caught cheating, you will receive a zero for the assignment, and your parent or guardian will be contacted.
-
Homework and Assignments:
- Complete and turn in your work on time. Homework from the previous night is due at the start of class—no exceptions.
- If you’re absent, pick up missed work from the "Missed Work" section in the room and turn it in according to the timeline: e.g., if absent on Monday and you pick up the work on Tuesday, it’s due Wednesday.
- Do not hand in blank or nearly blank assignments. If you’re confused, review the videos posted on Google Classroom or stay after class for help. Blank or nearly blank assignments will receive a zero.
-
No Cell Phones:
- Cell phones are not allowed in the classroom—no exceptions.
-
No Food in the Classroom:
- Due to allergies, food is not allowed in the classroom.
By following these expectations, we’ll create a respectful, productive, and positive classroom environment where everyone can thrive. Let’s work together to make this year a successful one!
